The most desirable area on the Mediterranean
Altea and the residential area behind the town, Altea Hills, is one of the most desirable locations on the Spanish Costa Blanca, and is a popular choice for buying property in Spain.
With exceptional views over the Mediterranean, the bay of Altea and the stunning Costa Blanca coastline, Altea and Altea Hills is blessed with being Spain's perfect location. And the sea views across the bay are even more attractive at night when the surrounding towns are illuminated.
Altea Hills, set in the mountains behind the old town, boasts its own community, amenities and luxury 5 star hotel. The old typically Spanish town has all the shops and amenities you would expect as well as a marina which is soon to be expanded to accommodate a further 200 berths in readiness for the 32nd Americas Cup to be held in Valencia, Spain in 2007.
A restful resort in the heart of Alicante Province
Altea is in the Spanish province of Alicante, in the heart of the Costa Blanca, and is without doubt one of the most charming towns on Spain's "White Coast". This pretty resort is just 11 kilometres north of Benidorm, but the two are worlds apart. It is a restful place where there's plenty to see and do without being bothered by the mayhem typical of some of the busier coastal towns. The magnificently jumbled and cluttered centre of the Old Town gives it a special charm.
At the foot of the hill lies the wide sea promenade and the commercial street. Down at the seafront are a series of pebble and shingle beaches where the full range of water sports are available during the summer months. The seafront promenade is also the venue for the huge Tuesday market, one of the largest of its kind on the Costa Blanca.
Popular amongst artists and craftsmen
The town's tranquility has made it a paradise for artists and craftsmen and their shops and stalls are scattered everywhere. The streets are a delight with whitewashed buildings adorned with jasmine and geraniums. Private homes, shops and restaurants sit comfortably side by side in a jumble of buildings.
Enjoy the town's many wonderful restaurants during your stay - you'll find top quality local and international cuisine at very reasonable prices. And in the summer months, the cobbled streets of the old quarter with their street terraces are a perfect place to people watch while you dine. |
